Skins UK: Season 5

Okay so I have to admit that I had a break from watching skins over the past couple of weeks. Sadly I was extremely busy and it was one of those things that got pushed back and pushed back again. I had not forgotten about it though! how could I, this season has been one of the best seasons so far after the turn of the deadly season 3! Yesterday I had a skinathon where I watched episodes 4, 5 and 6 (just about to watch the 7th episode) and how bloody brilliant it is! I am shocked that they seemed to have found a great bunch of young actors for a change. I have to say that I absolutely LOVE GRACE! (she is the new Cassie!... oh how I miss that girl!) with not many episodes to go until the finale I am going to give you my rundown on the characters so far (and lets see if this changes at the end!)

Alo - Will Merrick
Until Alo’s episode, I really did not like this guy. I know it is part of the character’s personality but the guy just seemed pointless and rather gross. I am not really a fan of the humor from him and I really was not particularly looking forward to his episode. When it was turn to see the world of Alo it was really nice to see him grow up at the end. His mother is an absolute bitch and it really made me feel for him (because my mum is so great!) but yes I have to admit that under all those grotesk clothes and extremely pale skin lies a guy that I am starting to like and I look forward to seeing what happens to him in season 6

Grace - Jessica Sula
Well... what can I say! I absolutely love this girl! she has my humor and is just as crazy as I am! I cant get enough of her. The part where she starts to dance with that old stripper woman in her episode made me laugh and then cry! I loved Grace from the start so when it come to her episode I was really looking forward to it! I even love the mum! they are a complete bunch of freaks and I am SO EXTREMELY thankful that my family are nothing like that! Hats off to Jessica Sula who plays Grace to a T!

Nick - Sean Teale

Okay... well this is where I have to be honest with you. I liked the guy at the start of the program because he is rather attractive (I think) and I thought he would be a great play throughout but the more I watch skins the more I think he is completely pointless and just there to aid that whore that I will speak about in a bit! I just do not think that Nick gets anything! I liked his episode where he managed to sort out his life and quit rugby at the end but I just thought “I want you to go off the rails and do something stupid like shave your head and get tattoos” I am not a fan but lets see what happens in the next few episodes.

Matty - Sebastian De Souza
We all like the dark mysterious types and Matty is one of these! I cant say that I cared for him at the start because he was barely in it but I do like this character. He is made out to b the rather strange one yet I think he has his head screwed on more than any other character! I cant wait to see what happens with him (and if they kill him off in season 6 as they seem to do with a character... I will kill them!)

Liv - Laya Lewis
LOVE! LOVE and more LOVE! I think it is because I know people like her but she would be such a great friend and person to hang out with. I feel sorry for her because she seems to have many problems yet they aren't actually her problems... they are problems that she has got caught up in with other people. I liked her at the start and I am loving her at the end!

Rich - Alexander Arnold
I did not think I would like him at the start but that lasted about 5 mins and then I loved him. Again, I know people like this but he has such a great slow sense of humor and ends up in situations that you just WANT him to end up in for those great Skins moments! I wish he would cut his hair though!!!

Franky - Dakita Blue Richards
She is a lesbian!!! no she is not! but she is! Franky is the first character we meet in Skins and I would not have it any other way. I really really like her! I swear that there is far more to her than the program is letting on... YET... I will be waiting patiently to see what exactly happens to her. I even lover her look and everything that comes with it

Mini - Freya Mavor
BITCH! - yes I know t is horrible but she is a cow and the program makes me want to see her have an eating disorder and be unhappy! I was not too into her when she was in the first episode and I actually hate the cow near the end. I hope there is some really big story for her where her life comes crashing down!... sorry but there is always one lol!

okay so that is my roundup of the skins characters! I am sure that you may disagree but lets see how much this changes by the end of this season and the next season! Yay for skins and I cant express how happy I am for season 3-4 to be gone!

Thank God For Westfields!

As you may know!... I am a HUGE fan or architecture and anything that is being built in London (as long as it is interesting :P) I usually know about. When I first moved to London the news was all about Westfield shopping centre in Shepherds Bush and let me tell you... Its amazing! like I said to my mother “You have not seen a shopping centre until you see Westfields” Now I have found out some more news about the second Westfield shopping centre that is being built in east London and how exciting it is! If the first one was not big enough for you (joke!.. you could die in it and it would take days to find you!) then this one will be the largest urban shopping centre in Europe. (I mean we do not care about out of city shopping centres! its all about staying in the city now anyway! This shopping centre that will be attached to Stratford International station and the Olympic park is going to be a gem. It is not announced what shops will be situated inside (apart from John Lewis, Waitrose, Marks & Spencer) but here are some photos that I have found for this “beautiful” project that I will be going down the DAY that it opens. I would like to say thank you God... Thank you Westfields!

It is SO beautiful!!!! Once it is open EVERYONE has to make a visit no matter WHAT!

London's Orbit

Every time you look on London news websites of news papers I swear that there are articles on the new landmark that is being build next to the olympic stadium “The Orbit” It seems to get so much bad publicity yet everyone seems to be obsessed with this thing. Personally I love it! Its strange, striking and its very different. I have heard it being referred to as a blood clot, Intestines, alien, a broke Eiffel tower and many more but I really cant help but love the thing. We will see int he future if it holds the test of time and if London takes it under its wing and I really believe that the city will. I refer to the thing as the new Tate modern. The factory is very ugly and my first response to the building would be to take the thing down rather then convert it into an art gallery but how wrong I would have been!? The Tate is an amazing place and it shows how beautiful something ugly can actually be. Now yes I know that the Orbit is being built now and the Tate was a factory and that factories aren't designed to be pretty but it shows that just because it is not loved now does not mean it will not be loved once the Olympic games are over. Trust me on this one, I think its a lover and I cant wait to see it and use it in 2012!

I really like the design and think that when you are standing under it that it will really take your breath away and make you see this object in a whole new light.

This is more what the Orbit looks like at the moment but it is growing fast!

A view from below. I think this is the best way to look at it! I am rather impressed!

Bring back the Skylon

I was looking up information on the new landmark that is being built on the Olympic grounds when I come across a rather strange old landmark. Before looking for it I had no idea this thing even existed but what I found out about it really amazed me! It was a very slender and modern sculpture that was erected in London in 1951. It looks like an alien space ship for anorexics but I am so surprised that people loved it back then. The sculpture is something that would stand out and lap up the attention in 2011 so I can only imagine the reaction that it received back then in 1951. Sadly the sculpture was demolished in 1952 (I am under the impression that it was never designed to last) by orders of Winston Churchill who saw it as a symbol of the Labour government. there are many rumors as to where the parts of it are now but there is a campaign to re-erect the Skylon again (many locations but clearly it should only be resurrected in London, I voted for City Hall as I think it would be the best new home for this amazing work of art) Please take a look at the website. I think the while idea is amazing and I really do hope to see this art standing proud in London very very soon. WE NEED MORE ART!

Skins UK Vs. US Plus Season 5? Yay Or Nay?

Okay now there are two versions of the same program either side of the pond! Has America outdone the British version and what about series 5 of Skins? Well, there are so many questions to ask and so many to answer! After watching four seasons of British Skins I did not hold much hope for season 5. Seasons 1&2 were amazing with the original characters and the dark, gross disturbing lives that they lead. Well, seasons 3&4 completely ruined the skins legend. Its not because of the change of characters, well to be honest with you...it is. I have no problem with them changing the cast but the cast and story lines were awful. Everything was exaggerated and the best bits of the first two seasons seemed to be erased and made bigger to keep the public watching. Skipping over to the US version, It is completely awful. Watching season 1 of US skins sadly makes me really like seasons 3&4 here! Skins is a program that America simply cannot remake. It is too dark, grimy, disturbing and “real” for America to have a decent shot at reproducing it. The version is too glamourous, happy, sweetened and just had everything that Skins is really about sucked out of it. I usually like American programs & remakes but this is one that I just simply HATE. Swimming back to the UK, Season 5 was surprisingly good! I love the new characters and I love the order that they have been placed in. Clearly some thought has gone into this season and I look forward every week to watching the program. It was always going to be a make or break for season 5 because if it was awful it was guaranteed that people would start switching off. This seasons cast simply erase the fact that seasons 3&4 ever existed and to me continue off from season 2 where the program was great. If you are from America and you have not seen the UK (ORIGINAL) version then I strongly recommend watching it because once you see the original version you will never switch on to the crap that you were watching before. Yes, I will give the US version a chance and will watch the whole season but its just simple ... it will never be as good as the first. The attitude and darkness would just get banned in America. Love skins and keep on watching Season 5!

Has Britney done it?

When it comes to Britney spears I really have no hope. I know it sounds harsh but I think she has been clinging onto the one thing that has been keeping her famous, being mad and having comebacks ever album. When I heard that Ms Spears had a new song coming out I did not think “oh I better write this one on the calendar because it is a brilliant buy” and I have to agree, now that I have heard the song I still do not think it is a must buy... However I think it is a pretty good damn song for her so it has re-lit theI had for this woman. I do not want to talk about the song though, Its the video that has got me looking!
There was so much hype over this video that I expected it to be awful. I find that most music video that get so much promotion and hype end up just being plain, cheap and boring. Well, I take this back for ms Spears video. I saw a link to the video from friends profile so I thought I would have a little lookie and when I did I was very pleasantly surprised! There has clearly been some money spent on this video, and so there should be because I am almost certain that if this song and video failed then so would Spears. She has had so much time to rebuild herself and her performances that this was the final straw. It is also great to see that Britney Spears has also finally admitted that she is an alien. The video is colourful, catchy and entertaining. The part that really attracts me to this is her dress when she is spraying it with paint. it is absolutely beautiful and if you watch i on Vevo where the quality is very good then you can see just how much colour and creativity has gone into this video. now i am not saying that this is the best music video, i think she has a long way to go before she can claim that title but this is a very good direction and improvement on anything else she has done. I will be intrigued to see if the next song has the same quality added to it as this song has done.

The Brit Awards 2011... Rocked!

well what a brilliant night at the Brits!!! I am so happy that they decided to move the ceremony to the O2 even though there was one negative thing... it was so BIG!!!! but I think that gave it such a great atmosphere! (and I love all the complaints about how far people had to walk to get from A to B!)
Apart from it being an amazing venue it was actually a brilliant show they put on. I am surprised to say that I loved Rihanna’s section (yes I am not the biggest fan of this woman at the moment) and Take That!!! There were a few people however that I am sorry to say that I have NO idea who they were!? That blonde girl thing that walked up on stage and said something like “mum here you go” and then showed the bottom of the award!? I am sure she did not even know who she was and I am so glad her speech (if that is what you call it) was short because she needed to get off that stage! (drop her from the ceiling! (sorry that was harsh!)
One thing that I missed (lots!) was the mash up style music that the Brits did last year.... that was great, this year we watched Paloma Faith loose half of her dress whilst singing... fun but not that amazing and many riot police run across a stage with a man on fire (more amazing) Anyway, the winners for me were Adele! (that woman has a pair of lungs on her!) Paloma Faith (minus the awful singing) for her dress rip and for just being amazing and also Rihanna. If you have not already watched it then I recommend that you either youtube it or watch it on a player because it was one of those shows that is needed to be watched (cool people do!?)

PS I hate the host! he is such a nob!

I am impressed and will wait fondly for the next show.... lets see what the reaction is soon!
