The Ghastly BT Tower Sheds It's Skin

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed news story after story about the BT tower. Recently the tower has gone under a slight image change with the removal of all the dishes that once gave this tower its striking characteristics. The dishes were removed for heath and safety reasons as they had been deteriorating for a rather long time. What surprises me with this tower is that it is grade listed. Whilst I have come to accept the tower and understand its need to be there, its needs for residence are becoming lesser with newer technologies in communication. If BT decide to abandon this building, the sad though is that it will still have to stand there year after year looking rather ugly. I have a great acceptance of architecture and love reading about and visiting many places around the city but the one building that I will never come to love is this ghastly tower. Now that the dishes have been removed, there are talks as to what to do with this rather large space that has been freed up. To be completely honest, anything will be better than its current state but some of the suggestions have been to fill it with advertising or even decorate it with lights. The latter sounds better to me but the problem that I think should be prioritised first is the overall look of the tower during daylight. For a company that seems to scam so much money out of the public and certainly gave me some hellish years, you think they would have enough money to spruce up their building and give some new life to the skyline in this area. Whilst you will very rarely hear me talk badly about London and its architecture, the best thing to happen to this tower would be for it to fall down and take the company with it. Merry Christmas :)
